Lush and trippy ambient electronic music

Blisswave's new Manvantara album is out now!

Blisswave is the creation of electronic music composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Michele Leonard.

The name Blisswave comes from the idea of blissing out on a soundwave, and the notion that sound can transform consciousness. Taken even further, it is the idea that the world is sound, “Nada Brahma”. All is energy and vibration.

Combining the ancient with the technological and futuristic to explore the depths of the ambient genre, Blisswave creates lush and trippy ambient electronic music which evokes a sense of mystery and otherworldly, often cinematic soundscapes to take listeners on a mystical journey into the far reaches of the imagination.

As I mentioned in my latest newsletter, (which can be subscribed to here) Blisswave has been very busy for the past few months working on music for a new EP, and the Blisswave sound is evolving! I am getting to the final mixing stage, then the tracks will need to be mastered and the cover art created, along with working out distribution details. There is still a lot of work to do, and I'm not yet certain of a release date -- p...

Recently, I took some time off from working on music to take a much-needed vacation at my favorite spot in Northern Michigan. Having lived in Michigan all my life, I have experienced my fair share of cold, blustery, snowy days and snowstorms. I have also had the opportunity to travel to the beautiful mountains of Switzerland during the winter season. Yet for me, there is nothing quite as breathtaking as a Northern Michigan win...

Blisswave is celebrating Christmas with the release of a new single! “Celestial” was originally written before the holidays in 2016. Though it is not a “Christmas song” per se, it was inspired by the Christmas season and by the stillness and majestic beauty of winter. A dreamy, ethereal ambient instrumental piece from Blisswave’s debut album, Journey Through Laniakea. As an extra treat, I have created another trippy kaleidosco...

One of the things I love about making music (and one of the reasons why I never really wanted to write about it) is the fact that it is a process that overrides verbal language and intellectual thought. Although music has its own language of notes and chords and scales, creating music can be a way to “turn off the mind” for a while and become immersed in another form of expression, communication, and perception that can simult...

One of the most simultaneously liberating and challenging aspects of composing music in a DAW in the 21st century is the sheer number of presets, patches, and instrument tracks to choose from – there are literally thousands, perhaps millions of sounds available, with an equally vast number of ways to manipulate those sounds and create even MORE sounds and effects. It can be overwhelming and often takes a great deal of time to...

Blisswave’s first album, Journey Through Laniakea, is finally here! It is available to stream and download on our music page and is also available on i-tunes, Amazon, Bandcamp, and all other major music outlets, including CD Baby, who, for a limited time from September 11th to September 15th, will donate a portion of all download sales to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The creation of the album has been a very long journey fo...

Whenever I sit down to work on a new music project, I really have no idea what is going to happen. I feel like I am starting over EVERY SINGLE TIME; as if I have never, ever, in my whole life written a piece of music. It is a disconcerting feeling. Like a writer faced with a blank page, or a painter with an empty canvas, it can be daunting to have the courage to begin over, and over, and over again. It destroys me every time....

Blisswave has garnered her first review! It’s a small review for my first single, but I’m still really excited about it. It is nice to know that someone is listening! Check it out here.

Being an independent musician and launching a music career (is that what this is?!) when you are completely anonymous is certainly a challenge, as I have been learning recently. (Boy, I just love to learn stuff!) It is even more challenging when you don’t play live, like me – at least not yet. How do you reach people and let them know about your work??

When the internet is your primary tool, it is a little bit like staring into...

I have heard that it is very important to have videos to accompany one’s music. There’s only one small problem: I really don’t know how to produce videos that would work well with my music AND I’m on a shoestring budget. On the other hand, I really love trippy kaleidoscope imagery, and thought it would be kind of cool to create a kaleidoscope video to accompany my first single, Dawn Spirals. To that end, I present to you my fi...
